This is what is called a "Nalder Burger". It comes from my Aunt Lorraine and Uncle Jay's family. This evening we were celebrating the marriage of one of their sons, my cousin, and we had these burgers so I thought I would post a picture of it!
My Unlce Jay did a step by step demonstration of how this is made: 1. Take the bun 2. Spread peanut butter on the bun (crunchy preferred) 3. Put a sliced banana on the peanut butter 4. Then the hamburger patty 5. Place any condiments or extras like you would a regular burger (The only optional part) 6. Put the top of the bun on 7. Take a piece of lettuce and wrap it around the burger. By doing this everything stays inside so your hands don't get messy! 8. Enjoy the creation and as my Aunt Lorraine said "It's a party in your mouth". And it really was! I hope I got those steps right! It was a lot of fun trying out this family recipe of theirs that has been passed down for 5 generations! It reminded me of how important family is and how fun traditions can be! Thanks Aunt Lorraine and Uncle Jay for sharing this delicious tradition with all of us! Feel free to comment what traditions your family has!
To start off the début of "my canvas", I thought I would share a bit about myself, my experiences in life, and why I want to write. I'm 24 years old, which to me seems old, but say that to anyone over 30 and they would just laugh. Although being young I feel like I have experienced quite a bit, and those experiences have shaped me into who I am today. I grew up in a small town in Alberta. If you're wondering how small, let's just say I delivered the newspaper to the mayor each morning for a few years. I then went to high school in the city. That was quite the change, going from a school of less than 200 to one of 1200. After high school I went on a mission for my church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to Italy for two years. Did I ever learn a lot there. I became fluent in Italian while living there and am now studying French in university (odd I know). A love for languages started while in Italy, but I'll write about that later. Last summer I attended Université Laval in Quebec to further enhance my learning. Living in different cultures has opened my eyes to see just a glimpse of what the world has to offer. A few months ago I got married to the love of my life. We've grown so much in these months I can't wait for what is in our future! We enjoy rollerblading, bike rides, going for walks, camping, and baking together. So pretty much anything outside and anything that tastes good. I've been painting for a couple years now and love it. It is so rewarding to start with a blank canvas and fill it with colour that forms together into a beautiful picture. In the last few months I have taken on writing and feel it's a great way to enhance my creativity. I have always loved reading so I figured writing was the next step! I want to write for many reasons. I want to help people see the beauty of daily life around them, share some painting tips or stories of others, talk about books I've read or am reading, share some experiences that have impacted me, and just be a positive voice in the world. I will have a picture of the day entry with a pictures from each day that has helped me see the beauty in the world. I will write short captions with each of them. It will be quite the variety of posts but I hope to we can all enjoy what we have around us, and find beauty in daily life! |
