Henderson Lake Park is one of the prettiest parks in Lethbridge. It consists of a 24 hectare man-made lake, over 7 km of trails, many playgrounds, picnic areas, gardens, and groves. The lake is used for kayaks, paddle boats, canoes, and dragon boats. You'll often see people young and old along the shores fishing for Pike, Perch, and Whitefish. Around the park there are other attractions such as the Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens, a skatepark, the Spitz Baseball Stadium, Henderson Lake Golf Course, Henderson Swimming Pool, the Tennis Club, and much more. Henderson truly is an oasis in the city.

This photo comes from Avalanche Creek in Glacier National Park. Avalanche Creek boasts deep red rock and clear blue water. It's like no other creek I've seen. It's a short easy hike up to the small falls here, then another 3 miles to Avalanche Lake.
Today's photo is of the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Lethbridge, Alberta. I don't drive around the north side of Lethbridge that much so this church really stood out to me. I love the symmetry of the spires on the left and right of the building. This building was created and built by the displaced Ukrainians after World War Two. They had come to southern Alberta to work in the sugar beet fields. Their charter was established April 22, 1942. (Source: http://www.lethbridge-orthodox.org)
I don't know much about their religion but I find it fascinating that a Ukrainian church is well and strong in this community. We were trying to read the sign on the front door from across the street but couldn't. Then we realized it was in Ukrainian! To learn more about their beliefs and culture, check out their website linked above! Driving along the "Going to the Sun Road" in Glacier National Park, Montana, USA, you can stop along the Saint Mary Lake and see the famous Wild Goose Island. It has quite the folk tale behind it's naming. Wild Goose Island Folk Tale Wild Goose Island is in the middle of St. Mary Lake. A long, long time ago, two native tribes resided on opposite sides of St. Mary’s. Even though they seldom fought, they had no interaction. One day, a strikingly handsome warrior from one tribe noticed a beautiful woman on the other swimming toward the island. He couldn’t resist her beauty immediately swam to meet her on the island. The two met, clicked instantly, spoke for hours, and became engaged. They promised to meet again tomorrow morning on the island and each swam home. Upon reaching their tribal shores, they realized they had created a massive problem. Each tribe’s elders demanded that the engagement be broken off. Well, the two lovers didn’t agree and met each other the next morning on the island. After a quick discussion, they decided to run away and find their own land to marry and live. When the tribal elders found out, they sent war parties to retreive their membersand were determined to bring them home, no matter wha the cost. Thankfully, the Great Spirit had kept its eyes on the two lovers. Taking pity on them, he transformed them into geese so they could fly away and be together forever. When the tribal warriors arrived on the island, all they found were two geese, tenderly rubbing necks. They flew away and never returned. From then on, the small island in the center of St. Mary’s Lake in Glacier National Park was known as Wild Goose Island. (Folk tale retrieved from Glacier National Park Travel Guide) Here are some other silhouette photos from our drive through the park. We went down to Big Sky Waterpark in Montana, USA on Saturday. It's the largest outdoor waterpark in Montana with 10 exciting waterslides, a large hot tub, a pool, go karts, an antique carousel, mini golf, and a climbing wall. It was definitely fun for the whole family. There are two kids slides, two slides for tubes, two speed slides, and four regular slides. The slide in the picture is called Geronimo. It is seven stories high so you get some wicked speed going down it. Just to say I did it, I went down it. The lifeguard at the top said "I hate this slide, I hate heights." If you're in the area and want something to do on a hot day, I would recommend taking the family here. It was a blast! Check out their website for more info: Big Sky Waterpark I found this video on Youtube of a girl going down it. Let's just say when you weigh a bit more, you make a bigger splash at the bottom.
